The Nigerian Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) is a renowned subsidiary of the global society. With over 37,000 global members of the Society, the Nigerian Chapter consists of erudite and experienced professionals across public and private sectors such as the military, maritime and commercial enterprises as well as the civil society, engineering and allied field and the academia amongst others. Pertinently, the main thrust of the Association is the development and driving of initiatives and programmes that would consolidate the institution of safety awareness and practice within Nigerian Society and the globe in general.
The national President of the Association, Mrs Fatima O Zubair led a delegation on the visit to Naval Dockyard Limited on Wednesday 11 October 2023. The visit was aimed at identifying with the Yard and congratulating her for the recent giant strides in ship design, construction and repairs, R&D and innovation in addition to maintaining a high standard in complying and practicing Health Safety and Environment in its facilities. The Association further seeks to explore areas of collaboration with the Naval Dockyard Limited to strengthen Health Safety and Environment practice in the country. It is noteworthy that the Naval Dockyard, like the Nigerian Navy, places a high premium on maintaining a commendation while mitigating inherent risks at the workplace. The Yard thus maintains an enviable Safety record whereby risks are thoroughly assessed and minimized while the working environments are safe and conducive for both staff and clients. The team was delighted at the warm reception and assurances of the Yard as a worthy, willing and able partner in progress of the Nigerian Chapter and global outreach of ASSP.
