
The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) stands out as one of the essential defence establishments saddle with responsibility of driving national initiatives towards sustaining efforts at Industrialization, self-reliance, Research and Development (R&D) and local content development among others. This is usually achieved by coordinating the activities of her constituent establishment/subsidiaries and strategic partners in order to achieve the strategic goals. In line with this, the Director General DICON, Major general Aniedi Edet led the delegation to the Naval Dockyard Limited on Tuesday 24 October 2023. The visit by the Director General and the DICON committee was largely aimed at evaluating the contributions and preparedness of the subsidiaries and partners such as Naval Dockyard to deliver on their mandates.
After the brief of the Yard’s activities and subsequent tour of the facilities, the committee agreed that the Naval Dockyard has contributed immensely towards enhancing maritime security, ships construction/repairs and infrastructure development as well as maritime transport and oil and gas utilization amongst others. Overall, Director General expressed delight that the achievements of the Yard within the context of the specified and implied tasks of the Nigerian Navy, has significantly contributed to indigenous ship building and maintenance, innovation in the Blue Economy, local content development and R&D. This is expected to build national capacity and expertise in the maritime sector while consolidating Nigeria’s regional, continental and global maritime power projection towards national development.
