The Naval Dockyard Limited has a proven track record in gender mainstreaming and inclusivity especially as it relates to ship design, construction, and maintenance. To achieve this, the Yard pursues robust policies and programmes to stimulate the participation of women across all departments and units ranging from staff administration, business and finance, information, and public relations, HSE compliance as well as vessel design construction and maintenance amongst others. To this end, the Yard develops and engages the female workforce like their male counterparts to be able to function effectively across the various departments and workshops through its comprehensive professional development as well as practical industrial and work experience programmes. This has ensured that the women are empowered to deliver good outputs while increasing their participation in marine and engineering-allied fields.
The NDL therefore boasts of a commendable percentage of women participation, with their inclusion of about 29 per cent in all facets of Naval Dockyard’s operations surpassing national and regional averages. To this end, the NDL’s posture of including women in operation and decision-making is laudable as well as symbolizes a responsible and dynamic organization that is fully committed to gender equity and inclusiveness in line with global best practices.
